This HouseMaster guide was produced to provide information regarding early deterioration of fire retardant treated (FRT) plywood roof sheathing and to provide a general understanding of the problems and causes. Starting in the early 1980`s, several model building codes recognized FRT plywood roof sheathing as an alternate method to parapets for providing a fire break at the roof in conjunction with fire separation walls in townhouses and/or condominiums and apartment construction.
