General Inspection Limitations

Your HouseMaster inspector will document the condition of all the major accessible elements of the home, taking time to point out the good points as well as the problems so you can take all necessary information into consideration. Each element will be rated and the particulars of each system or element including estimated ages, life spans, and manufacturers will be documented.

Choosing the right inspection company can be just as important as choosing the right home. HouseMaster offers some great tips on what to ask when shopping for a quality service.

Common Home Concerns

Although every home is different, decades of experience have shown that there are certain things every homeowner should look out for — before and after buying a home.

Please be advised that the areas and conditions noted in this presentation are for general reference purposes only. Not all home concerns identified will be addressed as part of a standard home inspection. For a complete understanding of the scope of a home inspection, ask your local HouseMaster office to provide a copy of the Order Agreement and applicable standards of practice for your review.

Preventive Maintenance Checklist

Proper and on-going maintenance is essential to retaining and growing the value of your home, which is why HouseMaster provides you with this helpful Preventative Home Maintenance Checklist. Preventative home maintenance, as the name implies can help you prevent more costly repairs down the road.  For example, by keeping your roof free of debris and mold growth you can extend the life of your roof.  You will eventually have to replace it, but not before the end of the roof’s normal useful service life.  Some other items that should be on your checklist may include trimming trees and bushes away from your foundation and making sure there is no wood-soil contact around the perimeter of your home.  These conditions invite unwanted house pests like termites and carpenter ants.  Treatments for wood destroying insects can be costly, but nipping the infestation early on could save thousands on potential structural damage the insects can cause if gone untreated.  HouseMaster estimates that homeowners should spend between 1 to 3% of the value of your home on annual home maintenance and repairs.  To help you keep on track with your home maintenance needs we’ve developed this useful and fun interactive checklist.  Whether you are in the process of buying a new home or a vintage home, take a minute to use this tool to develop your own personal Preventative Home Maintenance Checklist.  Armed with this checklist, you will be ready to properly maintain your home and reduce the potential for major unexpected repairs.

If you don’t have the time to go through our interactive tool, don’t worry! As a HouseMaster home inspection customer you’ll be provided with a Preventative Home Maintenance Checklist with your inspection.  For more information how to get a copy of your Preventative Home Maintenance Checklist, call your local HouseMaster office today.
